Although the Congress party is ostensibly dependent on Rahul Gandhi, it will be better for the party to elect another person with intellectual strength to lead the dying party as its president.

Hundreds of Congress workers are sitting on a dharna in New Delhi today (July 2) urging Rahul Gandhi not to resign as the party president.

After the party’s crushing defeat in the recent Lok Sabha election, Rahul Gandhi had decided to resign and gone into a hibernation. He has blamed his party leaders for Congress’s debacle which has virtually removed the traditional party from the political map of India.

Rahul Gandhi was quite confident about his party’s victory and BJP’s defeat and he had predicted that Narendra Modi will not return as the Prime Minister (PM). However, Modi won 303 of the 543 Lok Sabha seat, reducing Congress to only 52.

It is largely believed that Modi’s BJP won the election deceptively by tampering with the electronic voting machines (EVMs). Most political leaders were complaining about the EVM frauds by BJP before the election.

However, when Modi won, all those complainants went mysteriously silent. The same is true for Rahul Gandhi who is a mentally weak man.

He neither complained about EVMs nor did he raise the issue of Modi’s corruption although during election campaigns he was calling Modi a “thief” for his alleged involvement in the Rafale deal.

Now, the Congress party is ostensibly dependent on Rahul Gandhi. But it will be better for the party to elect another non-Gandhi person with intellectual strength to lead the dying party as its president.
