Disney to Release Because I’m Your Dad

Disney-Hyperion, an imprint of Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW), has decided to publish Because I’m Your Dad, the first picture book from Ahmet Zappa, son of late musician / composer Frank Zappa, on April 2, with a first printing of 25,000 copies.

Featuring illustrations by Dan Santat, creator of Disney’s animated hit The Replacements, Because I’m Your Dad is a tribute to Zappa’s happy childhood and a promise to his daughter, Halo, for a one-of-a-kind relationship.

“I wrote this book for anyone who is a father, has a father, or hopes to someday be a father,” says Zappa.

Because I’m Your Dad

Whimsical monster characters bring the silly and sweet scenes to life while making the book relatable to both boys and girls.

The book’s ending, a moving tribute to the author’s father, guarantees intergenerational appeal: “Because I’m your dad, I will do all of these things for you and more…because that’s what my dad did for me.”

“It has been an absolute joy to see Ahmet’s playful and loving ode to the parent-and-child bond come to life through Dan Santat’s imaginative illustrations,” says Stephanie Lurie, associate publisher and editorial director at Disney-Hyperion, who acquired world rights. The deal was negotiated by Jody Hotchkiss at Hotchkiss and Associates.

Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW) is a leading publisher of children’s books and magazines.
