Adult products destination Adamandeve.com recently asked over 1,000 adults in a survey if bondage is a part of their sex life.

Over one-fourth of the respondents (27%) admitted that blindfolds, restraints and paddles are included in their lovemaking. In fact, 17% said they utilize a “safe word” in bondage play.

“Bondage can range from blindfolds and fuzzy handcuffs to serious restraints and intricate rope knots,” says Dr. Kat Van Kirk, resident sexpert for adamandeve.com. “Ultimately, bondage can be a liberating form of sex play as long as both partners are comfortable with it and the rules are firmly established from the get-go.”

“The idea, which certainly gained popularity with mainstream America after the release of ’50 Shades of Grey,’ is about heightening the sex act,” continues Dr. Kat. “Bondage is more about pleasure than pain.”

“Adam & Eve has definitely seen an increased demand for restraints, collars, whips and paddles,” says adamandeve.com director of Marketing Chad Davis. “We are happy to help adults create their own ‘red room’ if that’s where their interests are.”

The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third party survey company, of over 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
