The Delhi BJP organized the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Delhi Sambodhan on Thursday. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley delivered the keynote address at the programme presided by Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari.

A number of trader bodies and Resident Welfare Association (RWA) leaders joined the programme along with Delhi citizens and BJP workers.

In his welcome address, Manoj Tiwari said that under the strong leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Narender Modi the country first saw demonetization being successfully implemented to weed out the black money and now with the implementation of GST the country has now become one market with one tax which will benefit all sections of the society.

BJP claims that the GST was conceptualized by a committee for tax reforms set up by BJP’s former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003. “Alhough Congress which came to power in 2004 persuaded it at Centre but in production-oriented states its own or ally state governments delayed it,” BJP stated.

“It was ultimately the will of Modi Government which promised to stand by to compensate states which may lose revenue which brought all states to accept GST.”

Jaitley said we did not force our decision on GST on any state including Jammu & Kashmir but showed them business and revenue loss the traders and states will suffer by not implementing GST in comparison to neighboring state which will implement it.
