Speaking at Schloss Meseberg, the German government’s retreat outside Berlin, Mr Stoltenberg praised Germany’s leadership of a multinational battlegroup in Lithuania and its decision to add more than 300 troops to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan security forces.
According to a NATO communique, the Secretary General also welcomed Germany’s increased defence spending, as the Alliance adapts to the most serious security challenges in a generation.
He outlined preparations for the NATO Summit in July, which will take the next steps for NATO’s future. While in Berlin, Mr Stoltenberg also met separately with Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
