NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met on Friday (24 November 2017) to discuss ongoing security challenges in Ukraine, international efforts to find a settlement to the crisis, and the partnership between the Alliance and Kyiv.

According to a NATO statement, Mr. Stoltenberg reaffirmed NATO’s strong political and practical support for Ukraine.

The Secretary General stressed that NATO Allies remain concerned by the ongoing violence in eastern Ukraine, including recent incidents in Luhansk. NATO calls on all parties to honour their commitments under the Minsk Agreements, and Russia has a special responsibility in that regard.‎

Mr. Stoltenberg also encouraged Ukraine to continue implementing key reforms, including in the defence and security sector.

He stressed that NATO Trust Funds are helping to modernise Ukraine’s defence sector, as part of the Alliance’s strong support to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
