Computer systems analyst, public relations manager, dental hygienist and physical therapist have been named among the best jobs for women in a new CareerCast report.

It identifies professions that provide a competitive salary, positive hiring outlook, and employ a high number of women in the field.

In 2012, 57.7 percent of all women in the U.S. were in the labor force, and the women’s civilian labor force is expected to increase by 9 percent or 6,462,000 through 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

“As more women continue to enter the workforce, more careers are emerging to provide an equal opportunity to succeed both professionally and financially,” says Tony Lee, publisher, CareerCast. “The professions we have identified pay well, have a large percentage of women working in the field and are expected to offer solid opportunities for growth.”

In the IT sector, for example, opportunities for women have grown dramatically in the 21st century, and the continued importance of IT in all phases of the American economic and workforce will translate into a more diverse hiring landscape.

Computer systems analyst is one of many fast-growing jobs where gender takes a back seat to skill, experience and passion.

In fact, the report says, the field employs more women than almost any other IT specialty at 34.9% last year, according to the BLS. And with competitive pay and a very positive hiring outlook through 2022, computer systems analyst is ranked as one of CareerCast’s best jobs for women in 2014.

Other top jobs where women comprise more than 60% of the workforce while also earning compensation comparable to their male counterparts include occupational and physical therapist, actuary, event planner, advertising and promotions manager, human resources manager and education administrator.
