Congress President Rahul Gandhi today led his party’s day-long fast at Rajghat in Delhi. Congress says it is protesting against the rising instances of atrocities against Dalits, adivasis, and minorities under the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s government.

“Under the Modi government, the social fabric of our democracy is under threat. With rising instances of atrocities against Dalits, minorities, and many other groups under the BJP rule, the Congress party affirms its commitment to fight for peace and tolerance,” Congress said in a statement.

According to Congress, 3 BJP-ruled states top the list of places where maximum atrocities against Dalits have been recorded.

The party said that its different units across India will be observing a fast today to protest against the atrocities and to promote harmony amongst various sections of society.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in India has issued an advisory to all states to take necessary precautionary measures in view of calls on social media for Bharat Bandh on Tuesday, April 10, by some groups.

The Ministry has asked for intensification of patrolling in all sensitive locations so as to prevent any loss of life or damage to property.

The MHA Advisory stressed that District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police be made personally responsible for ensuring that law and order situation remains firmly under control in the areas of their jurisdiction.
