The President of Russia Vladimir Putin met Thursday at the Kremlin with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces Mohammed Al Nahyan.

The current state of bilateral relations and development prospects for ties, especially in trade, the economy and investment, the fight against international terrorism, and other current issues in the Middle East and North Africa were the main subjects of discussion.

“We place great importance on developing our relations, which have always been built on the basis of friendship and consideration for mutual interests. It is a very timely and important moment to have this chance to discuss with you the situation in the region,” Putin said.

Following the meeting, Mr Putin and Mr Al Nahyan adopted a Joint Statement on the intention to take Russian-UAE relations to the level of strategic partnership. The document also states the intention to draft a declaration on this.

“We are very pleased to have this chance to meet today. There is no question that this meeting takes place at an important moment, when we are reflecting on the steps to take to continue developing our privileged relations, Mr. President,” said Mohammed Al Nahyan.
