‘Most Lethal’ will feature 12 of the world’s best special forces operatives in an array of combat challenges.
Spike TV delves into the secretive community of special ops in ‘Most Lethal,’ a new one-hour non-scripted series in which real-life warriors from the top tiers of special operation forces faceoff in a grueling competition to determine who is the fiercest.
Spike TV has also released a new slate of scripted original pilots aimed at expanding and broadening the network’s male audience.
The crop of new shows includes six comedies, many of which revolve around the crazy antics of dysfunctional co-workers and families and a one-hour drama focusing on domestic terrorism. (Read: Spike TV Shows to Woo Male Audience)
Moreover, Spike TV and reality show producer, Thom Beers, are going to take viewers down into the depths of the Earth for a look at one of the world’s most dangerous and compelling jobs, coal mining.
Spike TV will premiere the 10 episode, one-hour series ‘Coal’ in April 2011. It will be executive produced by Beers’ Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company. (Read: Spike TV Series on the Lives of Coal Miners)
Also, Paramount Pictures says it has made a deal for Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment to do a big-screen adaptation of sister company Spike TV’s original series “Deadliest Warrior.”
The announcement came on the heels of the show’s Season 2 finale, which brought about good ratings for the network. Spike TV has renewed the series for a third season. (Read: Deadliest Warrior Coming on the Big Screen)
The ‘Most Lethal’ series will examine the shrouded world of these military mercenaries by challenging 12 of the most dangerous in the world to compete for the title of “Most Lethal.”
Using advanced technology to analyze the weaponry, training operations, and tactics, the series will be an authentic look at this covert world rarely explored on television, says Spike TV.
The 10-episode series, produced by GRB Entertainment, will premiere on Spike in the summer 2011.
“We are bringing together twelve of the best-trained combatants in the world for the most intense reality series on television,” said Sharon Levy, Spike TV’s executive vice president of original series.
“The show will arm the viewer with information on training techniques and history of the special ops that viewers can’t find anywhere else.”
The competitors on ‘Most Lethal,’ ranging from non-active elite members of the Navy Seals to Green Berets, will have to withstand physical tests and demonstrate skills that go far beyond anything seen before in a competition show.
“It’s not enough for them to be fit and strong and great with weapons,” said GRB CEO Gary R. Benz. “We’re going to test every combat skill and tactical response in the book. Then, we’re going to throw away the book and find out what they learned on the battlefield.”
The series will be filmed at the military facilities around the U.S. under the supervision of local evaluators and a handpicked team of top tier combat operators.
The challenges are modeled on real world combat scenarios that will test everything from urban combat to evasion, from search-and-destroy to reconnaissance, and will include threat evaluation and threat elimination.
Each location includes special terrain along with a unique set of combat challenges that the contestants must overcome.
‘Most Lethal’ will deal with all facets of combat including the split second decisions that are critical to success and survival.
Casting will begin in the coming weeks. A host will be announced at a later date, said Spike TV Wednesday, Nov. 3.
‘Most Lethal’ was created by Tim Prokop, GRB’s vice president of development, who will also produce and direct the series.
GRB’s international division will market both the foreign sales of the series as well as the format rights. Sharon Levy is Spike TV’s executive vice president of original series and Tim Duffy is vice president of original programming for Spike TV.
