While almost all politicians in India are corrupt – many are facing serious criminal charges – they have been winning elections by dividing voters on the basis of their caste, creed, color, and religious affiliations. Elections are also being won by bribing the voters, intimidating them, or by tampering with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
It is also observed that people who vote in Indian elections are mostly poor, uneducated, and ignorant who can easily be cheated by corrupt politicians with their ad campaigns and false promises.
As a result, illiterate politicians or those with serious criminal records (history-sheeters) get elected and behave as dictators with ordinary citizens. These politicians are supported by unskilled bureaucrats. People of India are almost dying under the misrule of such politicians and bureaucrats.
A new report released by an independent political research organization Association for Democratic Reforms) has analyzed the criminal charges related to kidnapping as declared by Indian MPs and MLAs.
According to ADR, it has analyzed the affidavits of 4856 sitting MPs/MLAs, including 770 MPs and 4086 MLAs. Out of these 4856 lawmakers, 1024 (21%) have declared serious criminal charges against themselves.
Among these 1024 MPs/MLAs, 64 (6%) have declared charges related to kidnapping against themselves. ADR has published a complete list of these MPs/MLAs.
Out of 64 MPs/MLAs with declared charges related to kidnapping, 16 are from the ruling BJP headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 6 each are from Congress led by Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) formed by Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Out of MLAs with declared charges related to kidnapping, the highest number of MLAs which is 9 each are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
