Congress has claimed that goons of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi have threatened to kill Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.

According to Congress, BJP youth activists vandalized Tharoor’s office in Kerala on Monday and put a banner on it that read “Hindu Pakistan” office.

It is supposed to be a reaction to Tharoor’s recent remarks when he said if BJP won the Lok Sabha election in 2019, it will create a “Hindu Pakistan” where minorities will not have equal rights.

Congress has condemned BJP’s attack on Tharoor and demanded an apology from BJP president Amit Shah.

“Goons affiliated to the BJP vandalized the office of Shashi Tharoor and threatened to kill him. This is an unacceptable attack. We condemn it in the strongest terms and demand swift action against the thugs and an apology from BJP President Amit Shah,” Congress tweeted Monday.

Tharoor said this is an assault on democracy and on freedom of expression. He also informed that Congress workers throughout Thiruvananthapuram undertook solidarity marches in protest against BJP vandalism and violence.

Meanwhile, Kerala Police is investigating the case while more details are expected to emerge.
