University student poses with school children at Kasungu Drone Corridor. A team of University of Malawi students, under the supervision of a team from Virginia Tech University, flew an autonomous 19 km simulated drug delivery flight in a drone. The drone was designed and built by the Malawian students. The flight testing occurred at the drone testing corridor in Kasungu. UNICEF through the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launched the air corridor to test potential humanitarian use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones. The corridor is the first in Africa and one of the first globally. Drones have been used to test the feasibility of transporting laboratory samples for early infant HIV diagnosis, emergency medical supply delivery and vaccines. Photo: UNICEF
