In a step, which is considered only a retaliation to the Western stand against Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea region, Russia has decided to impose similar sanctions against the West.

The U.S. and European Union (EU) has punished Russia by imposing visa bans – among other measures – on Russian officials and those close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk of Ukraine met President Obama in the White House to seek latter’s support to save Crimea region from Russian occupation. (Read: President Obama to Meet Ukraine Prime Minister)

A Reuters report has quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich who said in a statement, “The Russian side has taken measures in response, which in many ways mirror (the Western sanctions).”
