Runner’s World Magazine on the iPad

The magazine has unveiled the September issue and marathon training guide for iPad users. Rodale Inc.’s Runner’s World has announced that the digital edition of the publication, designed exclusively for the iPad, is now available for purchase in the Apple App store for $4.99.

Runner’s World is claimed to be the first consumer running magazine to enter the iPad market.

The September issue of Runner’s World serves as the title’s inaugural digital edition and is exclusively sponsored by Puma.

Downloaders will receive a host of multimedia and interactive content, plus 26 free “preview” pages of handpicked content from the issue. This includes an exclusive profile of the nation’s Second Lady and running enthusiast, Dr. Jill Biden, as well as an audio reading from Peter Sagal, Runner’s World columnist and host of NPR’s “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me!”

The iPad users can also purchase a comprehensive Marathon Training Guide designed specifically for the device.

In addition to the running tips and feature stories found in the print edition of the magazine, users will also have access to bonus content not found in the actual issue, including exclusive videos, polls and quizzes, slideshows, and a full range of interactive social networking capabilities.

“We’re going live on the iPad with an exceptional issue that features our reliable service, storytelling and visuals in a unique and compelling way,” said David Willey, editor-in-chief of Runner’s World. “We’re looking forward to connecting with our core audience on a new level, and expanding that audience within the millions of savvy iPad users.”

Other features of the Runner’s World iPad app include:

  • ENHANCED VIDEO – You can watch reviews of the latest running gear, shoe reviews and follow step-by-step instruction of the latest training regimens
  • BONUS PHOTOS – You can check out slideshows of exclusive photos
  • MARATHON TRAINING – You can meet Runner’s World’s experts who share knowledge on how to prepare for running’s marquee races

The Runner’s World iPad launch marks the fourth app offering from the brand and fourth Rodale title to enter the iPad market.

Runner’s World recently launched its first iPhone app—SmartCoach—and plans to launch an Android version in the fall.

Rodale is a global media company.
