In the latest May 1-15, 2024 issue of The Unrest magazine, you can read that the Supreme Court judges dismissed the petitions that sought to stop electronic voting machine (EVM) manipulation in Indian elections. Most judges in India are not quite educated to handle cases that require domain expertise. Also, no court judge or government functionary can take any decision that may displease their boss Narendra Modi. You also can read a petition sent to the Chief Justice of India about the failure of the legal aid system in India.

The U.S. Department of State in its annual country report has revealed extreme corruption and human rights violations in India. The report reveals that the Indian government took minimal credible steps or action to identify and punish officials who may have committed human rights abuses.

As crimes are increasing in Delhi housing societies, an appeal has been filed to start e-Filing services for housing societies to submit complaints at the RCS Office of Delhi Government, the High Court of Delhi has said that it will issue bailable warrants against the President and the Secretary of DPS CGHS if they did not appear personally in the court, only 9% people in a poll want Modi to become PM of India after the 2024 election, and you can collaborate for an anti-corruption project to produce “India Corruption Research Report 2024 (ICRR 2024)”.

In the international stories, you can read that the Ministers of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) reaffirmed their commitment to combat financial crime, in a joint letter addressed to technology company representatives, Members of Club de Madrid, democratic former Heads of State and Government, have expressed profound concern over the proliferation of online hate speech and its detrimental impact on democratic values worldwide, and pro-Palestinian demonstrations continue in universities across the United States as they also spread to schools in Europe and Australia.

Top world leaders have called upon Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature to pass a groundbreaking bill, the Sovereign Debt Stability Act, which aims to significantly lower the economic strain on low- and middle-income countries burdened by unsustainable debt levels, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education Farida Shaheed will visit the United States of America to assess strengths and challenges in the implementation of the right to education in the country, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg received the Atlantik-Brücke’s Eric M. Warburg Award at a ceremony in Berlin.
