Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival in the Village Green

The 34th Annual Quechee Hot Air Balloon Craft and Music Festival will be held on the Village Green once again.

The balloon festival was forced to a different venue last year because of heavy rain and flooding damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

The Quechee Lakes Landowners Association, which owns a majority portion of the Village Green, has returned the large open space to its original condition by repairing and reseeding the grass, said club Property Manager Ken Lallier.

The festival is held each year during Father’s Day weekend and is run by the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce. Twenty colorful balloons float over the 165-foot-deep Quechee Gorge during the weekend.

Visitors can take in the beauty of the area from the ground, or during one of the balloon rides given Friday evening, and in the morning and evening on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival is stated to be the longest continuously running hot air balloon festival in New England and features more than 60 craft artisans and vendors.

This year’s festival will begin Friday, June 14 and run through June 16.
