Wowd Brings the Wow! Factor to Facebook

Wowd, a real-time search engine known for web-wide discovery and search technology, has released its social discovery and search tool designed for Facebook. This free, downloadable tool aims to help users streamline their experience in Facebook. It will allow them to de-clutter and discover the information that personally matters most, from within their social network, says the company.

Wowd’s solution for Facebook aims to ensure that users will never miss a post from people they care about, by delivering an “at a glance” view of what’s trending among friends, as well as customized news feeds by people and/or topics. The Wowd client even allows users to block annoying game spam.

With its custom news feed feature, users can create a stream of news from specific friends, filtered by search terms. For example, it’s easy to define a custom feed that shows updates from college friends that mention the word “party,” or a feed that only contains posts that include the word “baseball.”

Wowd’s Social Discovery Client offers the ability to further refine these custom feeds by date, links, photos and videos. A personalized summary of the Facebook news feed keeps users up-to-date on people and trending topics from their social network, even if they’re offline for a few days, it claims.

“Wowd makes it easy to search for and find information that matters most to you in Facebook,” said Mark Drummond, CEO, Wowd Inc. “The average Facebook user has about 130 friends and sees hundreds of status updates per day. Our new Social Discovery Client makes it easy for people to filter and find the best of what’s posted and shared within their Facebook social graph so they can get back to enjoying social interactions and not get distracted by unwanted noise.”

Wowd’s features include:

Favorite Friends: Filter your Facebook news feed to only show updates from people that matter most to you. No need to hide or block friends. It’s a good way to ensure that you never miss a post from your closest friends.

Custom Feeds: Wowd offers the ability to create custom views of Facebook data (and the web) based on people — and uniquely — favorite topics. Custom feeds can be filtered by time range or by keywords. You can set up multiple custom feeds to represent different groups of friends and different topic areas you’re interest in tracking.

Game Spam Blocker: Wowd surveyed over 1,000 Facebook users and discovered that game spam was a significant issue. While countless Facebook users like playing games, many dislike seeing game updates from their friends. Wowd allows users to cut the noise and block game spam.

Summaries: Summaries save time and avoid social overload with personal “at a glance” views of what people in your social network are talking about. See personalized trending topics, who is posting most, and get updates on relevant posts you’ve missed after being away for a day or two.

Social Search: Wowd‘s algorithms help users find relevant, personal information from within their social graph including status updates, articles, links, videos and photos.

The tool is available via a free download that works on Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems. The client can be downloaded at www.wowd.com.

In addition to social networking features for Facebook, the Wowd client offers other tools to help consumers discover the best of the web, including real-time search with live streaming results and trending topics that show what’s happening now, from across the entire web.
