Congress president Rahul Gandhi today filed his nomination in Wayanad, Kerala, for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

According to the party, thousands of people had gathered to attend Rahul Gandhi‘s road show after he filed his nomination.

His sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had accompanied him. “My brother, my truest friend, and by far the most courageous man I know. Take care of him Wayanad, he wont let you down,” Priyanka Gandhi appealed to the voters.

‏Congress had announced that Rahul Gandhi would contest from the Kerala district in addition to the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh from where he has been winning since his first election in 2004.

While BJP says that the Congress president is going to Wayanad because he is expected to lose his Amethi seat to BJP’s Smriti Irani, Congress counters, saying its president wants to stand with the people of South India who are facing increasing hostility from PM Narendra Modi.

With Kerala’s largest tribal population, Wayanad shares borders with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The election in Wayanad will take place on April 23 and Amethi on May 6. The counting of votes for the national election will be held on May 23.
