How EVMs Are Manipulated to Win Elections

By Rakesh Raman

The Chief Minister (CM) of West Bengal and Chairperson of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Mamata Banerjee said Sunday that she does not trust the exit polls that show PM Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win the Lok Sabha election again.

As the voting for the 2019 Lok Sabha election ended Sunday, a number of exit polls predict that the BJP-led group National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will easily cross the 272-seat threshold to form the government and Modi will be the PM again for his second 5-year term.

As expected, the opposition parties have started finding excuses for their imminent defeat. As they have been complaining for years that BJP tampers with the electronic voting machines (EVMs) to win elections, once again they put the blame on EVMs.

Earlier on Sunday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi counted a number of reasons – including faulty EVMs – that could result in Congress’s massive defeat.

Likewise, Mamata Banerjee has blamed EVMs. “I don’t trust Exit Poll gossip. The game plan is to manipulate or replace thousands of EVMs through this gossip. I appeal to all opposition parties to be united, strong and bold. We will fight this battle together,” she tweeted.

Mamata Banerjee – who is a fierce critic of Modi – indicates that the fake exit polls that favor Modi and BJP are supposed to hide the manipulation of EVMs which are being misused by BJP to change the election results in its favor.

Major opposition political parties in India have been repeatedly complaining about the vulnerability of EVMs. It is also being observed that when EVMs malfunction, they vote only in favor of Modi’s BJP which runs with Lotus election symbol.

However, instead of rejecting the EVMs and forcefully demanding the elections on paper ballots, the opposition parties willy-nilly accept EVMs and after losing the elections they keep blaming these machines. Most opposition leaders are so weak and naive that they do not understand the functioning of EVMs and how they are manipulated.

Recently, Modi said that EVMs are being cursed because his opponents have realized that people of India love Modi and it will not be possible to defeat him and his party BJP. So, he said, they have started finding faults with EVMs.

Modi stated.

Although Mamata Banerjee has blamed EVMs and has vaguely urged the opposition parties to fight the battle together, the opposition leaders have no game plan to dethrone Modi even if he wins deceptively with the help of EVMs.

Response on Social Media

There is a massive response from people about the EVMs issue on social media sites such as Facebook. For example, you can check out the users’ response on Facebook Group 1, Facebook Group 2, and Facebook Group 3.

If Modi wins again, all these opposition leaders will keep crying for the next 5 years and Modi will stay in power without any resistance from the opposition parties.

The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
