The political wing of Delhi Government – owned and controlled by chief minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – claimed Saturday it has opened 5,695 classrooms in different schools of Delhi.

The new classrooms were unveiled by Delhi’s deputy CM Manish Sisodia and AAP MLAs. Kejriwal’s Delhi Government claims it has allocated a quarter of its entire Budget for education.

However, Kejriwal and his ministers fail to understand that education does not mean money and classrooms. Rather, education depends on the educational content and quality of teachers – which is missing from all Delhi schools.

As a result, the students in Class 10 or Class 12 do not know even the basic arithmetic involving addition, subtraction, etc. They cannot write even in Hindi and their understanding of English is pathetic, as school teachers themselves are not quite competent to teach English.

In other words, the knowledge level of students who clear Class 10 or Class 12 exams is worse than even those who are in the primary level.

With such a pathetic state of education in Delhi schools, it is highly unfortunate that Delhi Government is celebrating the construction of classrooms.
