Rahul Gandhi, who was elected the President of the Congress party on Monday, formally took responsibility from her mother Sonia Gandhi today at a function held in New Delhi.

In his opening speech as the party President, Rahul Gandhi did not mince his words to attack his nemesis PM Narendra Modi without naming him.

He said that the current Modi politics is devoid of kindness and truth. “Today, the politics is not being used to serve the people, but it is being used to crush the people,” Rahul said about the politics of Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He added that those in power today lie and distort and represent those structures that keep India poor. “Congress brought India to the 21st century, but PM (Modi) is taking the country backwards,” Rahul said in his speech.

In her speech, Sonia Gandhi said, “We all know how the values of our democratic and secular nation are under attack. This is an ethical fight. We should be ready to sacrifice anything for this.”

The Congress President also held Modi and BJP responsible for the ongoing hatred and violence in the country. “Today people are being hated for who they are, beaten for what they believe in, and killed for what they eat,” he said.

“This ugly violence shames us in the world and no amount of hugs can repair the damage done to the country,” Rahul Gandhi ridiculed Modi’s weird habit of forcing his hugs on foreign leaders.

Addressing the party workers and leaders, Rahul Gandhi concluded that BJP is spreading fire (violence) in the country and Congress will extinguish it.
