NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on Wednesday (20 November 2019). They discussed key issues for the Leaders Meeting in December, including burden sharing, the fight against terrorism, and NATO’s adaption to current and emerging challenges.

According to an official communique, NATO is ready to address the progress it is making on burden sharing and informed that the European Allies and Canada have added $100 billion extra for defence spending.

“And then we’ll also address strategic issues like Russia, arms control but also the implications of the rise of China,” Mr. Stoltenberg said. “And NATO remains the only platform where North America sit together, meet together, and make decisions together on issues of great importance for our shared security.”
